A year in the life of Israel, a high school senior whose world is upended after his father is deported. As he struggles to navigate school, family, and an uncertain future, Israel turns to his faith for answers, only to find his beliefs challenged by the reality surrounding him. Set against the backdrop of America’s changing immigration policies, the film is an intimate coming of age story about family, faith, and the personal cost of political decisions.

 

The film takes a grounded, observational approach, capturing Israel’s world with a sense of intimacy and youthful immediacy. Long takes, naturalistic performances, and fluid camera movement create an immersive portrait of his daily life, while moments of visual poetry emerge from the tension between the ordinary and the profound. The camera remains close to Israel as his personal journey unfolds against a larger social and political landscape.
