STICKBALL: THE LITTLE BROTHER OF WAR

USA

Type: Documentary

Service: Concept Development, Production Planning, Cinematography

A ragtag women's team of underdogs and outsiders must come together to defeat the incumbent champions, earn ancestral pride for their community, and settle a historic rivalry.

Stickball players step onto the field carrying the honor of their families, their communities, and the generations before them. We frame them accordingly, as elite competitors forged through sacrifice, discipline, and cultural responsibility. Through this lens, Native athletes are portrayed in a cinematic light rarely afforded to Indigenous stories, one defined by power, heroism, and emotional depth.

Visually, the documentary is both epic and intimate. We move fluidly between the thunder of competition and the quiet ritual that surrounds it. War paint is applied in silence and in laughter, each design carrying personal and ancestral meaning. The sounds of Stomp Dancing echo like a prelude to the violence and grace of the game itself, grounding the athletes in rhythm and community.
